The Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) is presenting a curated selection of locally sourced, sustainably caught fish products at the Grand Halal Exhibition, which opened at the Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre.
Assisted by the Maldives Embassy in Thailand, MIFCO’s participation runs from the 15 to 17 July, offering a platform to highlight the flavours and responsible practices of the island nation’s artisanal fishermen.
Organisers describe the event as one of the largest halal food fairs worldwide, attracting delegates from more than 70 countries and expecting between 12,000 and 15,000 visitors over its three‑day run.
MIFCO emphasised that the exhibition serves not only to showcase traditional Maldivian seafood but also to introduce value‑added products to Thailand, the country’s biggest export market for Maldivian fish.
While Maldives currently exports mainly frozen fish to Thailand, MIFCO’s presence signals a strategic shift toward higher‑value offerings that meet international halal standards and sustainable fisheries guidelines. MIFCO noted that the initiative aims to open new business channels, strengthen existing trade ties and reinforce the government’s broader goal of expanding market access for its fishery sector.
