Thailand extends visa-free stay for Maldivians

Thailand’s government has decided to extend the visa-free stay period for Maldivians.

Thailand introduced a 60-day visa-free stay in 2024 for citizens of certain countries, including Maldivians. The Thai Cabinet later decided to reduce the 60-day visa-free period for 93 countries due to concerns that the system was being abused and could affect national security. Under the change, Maldivians were limited to a 15-day visa-free stay.

However, under the new rules, citizens of 59 countries will be allowed to enter Thailand without a visa for 30 days. Six additional countries, including Maldives, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, India and Malta, have been granted an extension from the previous visa-free period to 30 days.

The changes will take effect 15 days after publication in Thailand’s Royal Gazette.
