All land transport services to be digitised by end of August

All land transport services in the Maldives are expected to be digitised by the end of August, Minister of Economic Development, Transport and Trade Mohamed Saeed has said.

Responding to questions from members of Parliament, Saeed said applications for transport-related services are already available online around the clock. He added that the government is working with OneGov to introduce a more modern and efficient digital system.

According to the minister, the new system is intended to provide a long-term solution to the difficulties currently faced by the public when accessing land transport services. He said the government aims to complete the digitisation of all land transport services before the end of August.

Saeed also noted that efforts are continuing to connect the entire country through the Raajje Transport Link (RTL) high-speed ferry network. According to the government's target, all inhabited islands are expected to be connected under the RTL system before the end of January next year.

At present, RTL services operate in 15 atolls using 35 high-speed launches, while services have yet to begin in five atolls.
