MMPRC prepares to launch tourism promotion campaigns in India

Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) said on Monday that it is preparing to commence a special campaign to boost tourist arrivals from India.

India is an important market for the Maldives tourism sector, recording a significant percentage of tourist arrivals every year. Under its bid to increase arrivals from India, the government, promotion bodies and tourism sector stakeholders are undertaking special efforts, which is led by MMPRC.

Acting Managing Director of MMPRC Haris Mohamed said they are working with the Indian High Commission to launch targeted campaigns in various parts of India.

He said the campaign includes meetings with tour agents and tour operators of India, in addition to marketing and advising firms. Discussions at the meetings will focus on ways to further promote Maldives as a tourism destination amongst Indian travellers.

MMPRC is already attending travel fairs held in India. Statistics show that India accounts to one of the top contributors to tourist arrival figures, with a significant year-on-year increase. Over 34,800 Indian tourists visited the Maldives during the first six months this year, which is a 21.5% rise compared to the same period in 2015.
