MSME Day initiatives designed to help young entrepreneurs, economic minister says

Activities for Micro-, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Day were designed to reinforce administrative policies and assist young people entering the business sector, Mohamed Saeed, the Minister of Economic Development, Transport and Trade, said following the events.

In an interview with PSM News, Minister Saeed said the nationwide initiatives, organised by the Business Center Corporation and the ministry, included the 'MSME Fest' on 28 June at Hulhumalé Central Park, where 30 stalls provided resources to enterprises. Regional activities facilitated discussions with prospective entrepreneurs, marking what Minister Saeed characterised as a beginning.

"All of these operational efforts are fundamentally connected to the President's support for SMEs," Minister Saeed said, noting they align with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu. "They are driven by the strategic policies maintained specifically to foster the advancement of small businesses."

Minister Saeed continued, "In that regard, there is a dedicated focus on initiatives encompassed within the digitalisation space. This is particularly true for the 'Maldives 2.0' initiative. As is publicly recognised, access to PayPal services has recently been secured for the Maldives. These developments are progressing precisely as part of this broader project. The ongoing work to integrate additional platforms will also continue."

These efforts empower policy frameworks to expand entrepreneurial opportunities for youth. Underscoring this direction, President Muizzu highlighted the creative and creator economies, detailing how digitalisation helps Maldivian youth utilise global e-commerce platforms to market and monetise products, Minister Saeed said.
