Minister Hassan Rasheed inspects southern‑area bases

The Minister of Defence and National Service Hassan Rasheed wrapped up a two‑day tour of the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) Southern Area, inspecting key installations and reaffirming his commitment to the men and women who guard the nation’s territorial integrity.

The Minister began his visit at the Gan Air Station, where he was briefed on the daily operations of the MNDF Air Corps and the measures in place to secure the country’s airspace and maritime boundaries. Speaking with the airmen, Minister Hassan Rasheed inquired about the fleet’s readiness, logistics challenges and the status of operations.

After the air‑station review, Minister Hassan Rasheed traveled to the MNDF Southern Area Command in Gan, Addu City. There he met with ground‑troop personnel, inspected ongoing development projects—including upgrades to barracks and infrastructure—and held a roundtable discussion on the difficulties faced by soldiers stationed in the southern atolls.

The final leg of the tour took Rasheed to the Fuvahmulah Post in Fuvahmulah City, where he observed the progress of recent construction work and spoke directly with the post’s garrison. He highlighted the strategic significance of the southernmost outpost and thanked the troops for their vigilance.

Since assuming office, Minister Hassan Rasheed has made it a priority to visit MNDF bases across the archipelago, engaging directly with service members and assessing development initiatives.
