The Non-Resident Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the Maldives, Wiebe Jakob de Boer, has presented his Letter of Credence to President Dr Mohamed Muizzu during a ceremony held at the President’s Office.
The ambassador was escorted to the ceremony in a traditional 'Haiykolhu' cultural procession accompanied by the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Drum and Trumpet Band.
President Muizzu accepted the Letter of Credence and formally welcomed de Boer as the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the Maldives.
Following the ceremony, the President and the ambassador held discussions on areas of mutual interest, including infrastructure development, climate adaptation and cooperation on human rights issues.
During the meeting, President Muizzu highlighted the importance of support from the Netherlands for development projects in the Maldives. Both sides also reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing investment opportunities and further strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and the Netherlands were established on 3 September 1979.
