President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has arrived in Sri Lanka on a state visit, where he was accorded a warm welcome alongside First Lady Sajidha Mohamed. The President arrived earlier this evening at the invitation of Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake. The visit is scheduled to conclude on 6 May.
During the visit, President Muizzu is expected to hold talks with senior Sri Lankan officials aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
Discussions will focus on expanding cooperation in areas including education, vocational training, economic development and governance, as well as collaboration on heritage and international affairs.
Several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) are expected to be signed in the presence of both leaders to enhance cooperation across multiple sectors.
The President is also scheduled to participate in the Maldives–Sri Lanka Business Forum and meet members of the Maldivian community residing in Sri Lanka.
The President’s Office said the visit will facilitate dialogue on shared priorities and further reinforce the longstanding relationship between the Maldives and Sri Lanka.
The visit follows President Dissanayake’s state visit to the Maldives from 28 to 30 July 2025, which marked the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The Maldives and Sri Lanka established diplomatic ties on 26 July 1965.
