Tickets have been officially handed over to the top 16 contestants of the seventh season of the Best Radio Presenter (BRP) Competition, organised by national radio broadcaster Dhivehi Raajjeyge Adu.
The competition, designed as a reality programme, is open to young people interested in radio presenting and aims to develop new talent in the media sector.
Speaking at the event, PSM's Managing Director Ahmed Shakeeb described the competition as a valuable opportunity for aspiring media professionals.
“This is a golden opportunity for anyone interested in the media field. Participants will gain experience working across channels under the PSM umbrella. Alongside that, they will receive prizes, including a grand prize at the end of the competition. We are also preparing an agreement to offer the winner a role in either television or radio. A permanent position at the company will be opened for the winner,” he said.
The competition is set to begin broadcasting from 1 May on both television and radio platforms. Performance shows will air every Saturday at 14:00, while elimination rounds will be broadcast on Fridays at the same time.
Participants will be assessed across seven radio formats, including reports, news, storytelling, interviews, field interviews, phone-in segments and drama.
The judging panel comprises radio presenters Hassan Haleem, Nuzuhath Shameem and Ahmed Tholaal, while the programme will be hosted by presenter Mizna Ahmed.
The Best Radio Presenter competition was first launched in 2016, with all six previous winners being women.
This year’s grand prize has been increased to USD 3,234.32, double last year’s amount of USD 1,617.17. The winner will also receive a trophy and a one-year contract as a radio presenter at Dhivehi Raajjeyge Adu. The runner-up will receive USD 1,617.17, while the third-place winner will be awarded USD 1,293.74.
The competition aims to expand opportunities for young people in radio broadcasting and enhance their skills in the field.
