More than 62,000 people had cast their ballots by midday as the Maldives continued three concurrent polls across the country.
Polling for the Local Council elections, Women’s Development Committee (WDC) elections and a referen opinion poll began at 8:00 a.m. While a small number of polling stations experienced delays, voting commenced on time at the majority of stations nationwide.
According to the Elections Commission of Maldives, a total of 62,083 voters had participated as of 12:00 p.m., representing 21.05 per cent of eligible voters. This included 28,838 women and 33,245 men.
A total of 294,876 individuals are eligible to vote in today’s elections. To facilitate the process, 588 polling stations have been established across the country.
Voting is set to continue until 4:00 p.m. today, officials said.
