TV series launched to raise awareness on violence

The Australia–Maldives Friendship Association (AMFA) has launched a new television series titled “Himeyn Adu”, aimed at raising awareness about domestic violence and gender-based violence.

The series was officially launched at a special ceremony held at Salman Mosque, with support from government bodies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and international partners.

“Himeyn Adu” explores a range of issues including violence following divorce, religious perspectives, youth attitudes towards violence, and measures for prevention and protection.

Speaking at the ceremony, AMFA President Dr Ibrahim Hassan said the project represents an important effort to address pressing societal concerns. He noted that work on the series began in July 2025 and has resulted in a total of 11 episodes.

“One of our biggest decisions last year was to focus on domestic violence, one of the most serious societal issues in the Maldives, and to carry out community-wide efforts to find solutions,” he said.

AMFA, which was established in 2024, aims to strengthen bilateral ties between the Maldives and Australia. The association is involved in a range of initiatives, including sports, arts, cultural and community programmes, as well as efforts to expand business and investment opportunities.

The series is scheduled to be released in the second week of April.
