Belavia to launch direct Maldives flights in August

Belarus’ national airline, Belavia, has decided launch direct flights to the Maldives, marking a step forward in air connectivity between the two countries.

The airline has scheduled the start of operations for August, initially introducing the service on a trial basis. Belavia plans to operate between six and eight trial flights, after which it will assess market demand and operational factors before deciding on a permanent schedule.

According to Belavia's management, the Maldives is viewed as a promising long-haul destination, prompting the airline to explore entry into the market.

The launch comes as airlines continue to adjust operations amid global disruptions, particularly those linked to the Middle East conflict. Several carriers have increased services to the Maldives in response to shifting travel patterns.

British Airways has raised its weekly frequency to the Maldives from three to four flights, with plans to increase to five or six depending on demand.

Switzerland’s Edelweiss Air has scheduled 20 flights to the Maldives in April, while Russia’s Aeroflot has also increased services between Moscow and Malé to offset disruptions caused by cancellations from other airlines.

German airline Condor has announced plans to resume flights to the Maldives during the summer season, operating services from Frankfurt to Velana International Airport four times a week from 1 May to October.

Despite ongoing global travel challenges, the Maldives continues to remain accessible, supported by a wide range of international air connections and infrastructure catering to both commercial and private aviation.
