President says Maldives will not allow its territory to be used for war

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the Maldives will not allow any part of its territory to be used in the ongoing conflict in the Middle East or in any other war.

Speaking to journalists on the situation in the Middle East, the President said the government strongly condemns the attacks on Iran, which he said were carried out by the United States and Israel. He stressed that such actions should not undermine the independence and sovereignty of any country.

Moreover, President reiterated that Maldivian territory will not be used for military purposes by any country under any circumstances. He said the Maldives will continue to strengthen relations with countries where it serves national interests, but maintained that the country would not permit its territory to be used in any conflict.

The President also said he remains open to engaging with representatives of other countries to hear their perspectives, while maintaining the Maldives’ position against involvement in military activities. He further stated that the ongoing attacks violate principles of international law and expressed the government’s opposition to any attacks on Muslim countries.

The president called for an immediate end to the conflict, emphasising that hostilities should cease and that no country should be subjected to such attacks.
