The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) stated that the shore protection project for Funadhoo, Shaviyani Atoll, will be completed by June.
Speaking to PSM News, MTCC has detailed that 73 percent of this initiative has now been completed, adding that dredging, revetment backfill and rock boulder profiling works are currently ongoing.
Furthermore, 48 percent of revetment structures have been established, and 72 percent of land reclamation completed, MTCC stated. Also, beach nourishment works are currently at 64 percent completion. MTCC assured that this initiative provides a long-term resolution to the beach erosion issue faced by the island.
Funadhoo is the capital island of Shaviyani atoll, it has a population of 2,800 with approximately 2,500 individuals residing on the island. The government has finalised several development projects for this island.
