Maldives records over 200,000 tourist arrivals so far in February

Over 200,000 tourists have visited the Maldives so far this month, statistics have shown.

According to the Ministry of Tourism and Environment, 200,971 tourists have visited the Maldives thus far in February. This is a significant increase compared to the average number of arrivals in February the past two years, when arrivals stood at around 170,000. While 174,360 tourists arrived in February 2025, the number was at 170,520 in the year before.

Meanwhile, the highest single-day arrivals since 2024 was recorded on 14 February this year, with 11,136 tourists entering the country that day.

As of 22 February, the Maldives has welcomed 428,169 tourists in 2026. The country is currently averaging 8,000 tourist arrivals per day.

China is the top tourist source for the month, with high numbers also coming from Russia, Italy, the United Kingdom and Germany. Most tourists spend their holidays in resorts. However, there is also a noticeable increase in stays at guesthouses, hotels, and liveaboards. The government and private sector are conducting various initiatives to make the Maldives a more attractive and competitive tourist destination.
