The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has signed a formal agreement with Island Aviation Services Limited (IASL), operator of the national carrier Maldivian, to strengthen logistical coordination and support systems for citizens undertaking the Hajj and Umrah pilgrimages.
The agreement was concluded at a ceremony attended by senior representatives from both institutions. Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed signed on behalf of the government, while Managing Director Ibrahim Iyas represented IASL.
Central to the accord is a framework to enhance cooperation across pilgrimage operations and related services. Particular emphasis has been placed on ensuring reliable and convenient air connectivity. Under the arrangement, flight frequency between Malé and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, is expected to increase to provide pilgrims with improved accessibility and efficiency throughout their journey.
The agreement also highlights capacity building and institutional development. Provisions include specialised religious training for Maldivian airline personnel to better support pilgrims during travel. IASL has further committed to full participation in ministry-led initiatives, including the upcoming Hajj and Umrah Conference.
In his remarks, Minister Shaheem expressed appreciation for the airline’s continued national service and commended its efforts to prioritise the welfare and comfort of Maldivian pilgrims.
