India–Maldives always work for benefit of people

Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Khaleel has said that relations between the Maldives and India are founded on working together for the benefit of the people of both countries.

The Foreign Minister made the remarks while speaking at a ceremony held at the Social Centre to mark India’s 77th Republic Day.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Khaleel extended congratulations to Droupadi Murmu, Narendra Modi, the Government of India and the people of India on the occasion.

He highlighted the long-standing friendship between the Maldives and India, describing it as a relationship rooted not only in history but also in practical cooperation aimed at improving the lives of citizens in both countries.

“The friendship between India and the Maldives is not only historical. It is based on working together for the benefit of the people of both countries,” the minister said.

Dr Khaleel said India has consistently been a supportive partner to the Maldives, noting that Indian assistance has brought tangible benefits to the Maldivian people.

“India has been a long-standing supporter of the Maldives, and the assistance provided by India has benefited our people in many ways. Indian doctors, nurses and teachers working in the Maldives demonstrate their dedication and respect for this country,” he said.

India’s Republic Day is celebrated annually on 26 January, marking the adoption and enforcement of the country’s Constitution in 1950. The day also commemorates the swearing-in of Dr Rajendra Prasad as India’s first President.
