President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has said that the Maldives wishes to further strengthen its relations with India in a mutually beneficial manner. The President made the remarks in a message shared on social media to mark India’s Republic Day.
In his message, President Muizzu extended warm greetings and best wishes to Droupadi Murmu, Narendra Modi, the Government of India and the people of India on the occasion of the country’s 77th Republic Day.
The President highlighted the long-standing close friendship between Dhivehi Raajje and India, noting the mutual respect and strong ties shared by the two countries. He said India’s Republic Day symbolises the importance placed by the Indian people on upholding freedom, democracy and good governance.
“The Maldives wishes to continue our work together to strengthen our excellent ties that have immensely benefited the welfare of the people of both countries,” the President said.
India’s Republic Day is observed on 26 January to commemorate the adoption and enforcement of the country’s Constitution in 1950. The day also marks the swearing-in of Dr Rajendra Prasad as India’s first President.
