Elections commission of Maldives (ECM) has established the national complaints bureau ahead of the upcoming Local Council Elections and Women’s Development Committee Elections, taking place on April 2026.
The ECM stated that the purpose of the complaints bureau is to streamline the process for submitting complaints regarding elections and to establish a mechanism that would enable complaints to be addressed faster.
Complaints form will be received by ECM physically via counter desk or through email at complaints @elections.gov.mv. Complaints forms can be accessed through the ECM website, via the counter or through polling stations. Furthermore, the form can be accessed via the focal points assigned for overseas polling stations and throughout the nation at different cities/islands/atolls and wards.
Complaints Bureau counter will be open every day from 0900hrs – 1500hrs, except on Fridays. On Fridays, the counter will be opened from 1500hrs – 1800hrs.
ECM highlighted that complaints forms will be received by the commission throughout the voting day on April 4, till provisional results are announced. The commission establishes a complaints bureau prior to each election. The voters list and request for submissions of complaints has already been announced by the ECM, prior to the establishment of the complaints bureau.
