President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has established the Maldives Digital Service under the administrative oversight of the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology, following the abolishment of the National Centre for Information Technology (NCIT).
The agency was established and the NCIT dissolved under Article 116(a) of the Constitution, with the decision communicated via a directive issued by the President's Office.
This initiative aligns with the Cabinet's deliberations on 25 September 2025 regarding the Digital-First Nation vision. The agency is designated as the primary executive body responsible for implementing the Maldives 2.0 Roadmap 2025–2028: Journey to Digital Transformation.
The Maldives Digital Service will assume all responsibilities previously undertaken by the NCIT, in addition to spearheading implementation of the roadmap. The number 1137 has been assigned for official correspondence with the agency, as per the Presidential Directive.
