Government to distribute 118,000 canned tuna cases for Ramadan

Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) Managing Director, Farhath Shaheer has revealed that 118,000 canned tuna cases will be distributed among households for the upcoming holy month of Ramadan.

The current administration has been distributing Ramadan gifts to households each year. This year the government has earmarked the distribution of canned tuna cases for this endeavor.

Speaking on PSM News ‘Raajje Miadhu’ programme, MIFCO Managing Director said that the production of the canned tuna for Ramadan distribution is going swiftly, and that the production for all goods is almost complete. He added that the company is targeting to complete this task by 15 January.

The distribution of the canned tuna cases will be implemented by the Ministry of Cities, Local Government and Public Works in collaboration with State Trading Organisation (STO). To manage this endeavor smoothly, Managing Director Farhath revealed that stocks have already been compiled in Kulhudhufushi City and Addu City to ensure smoother logistics in the distribution of the gift packages to the north and south of the Maldives.

Farhath also stressed that the distribution works for these Ramadan gifts will begin soon. He highlighted that the distribution of canned tuna cases is part of a broader government effort to provide relief and assistance to households during Ramadan.

In the previous year, the government distributed 111,231 tuna cases to households. This includes 60,712 cases distributed across different atolls and 50,519 cases in the Greater Male’ region.
