MPS launches road safety and awareness drive

Maldives Police Services (MPS) have launched the road safety and awareness campaign ‘Rakka’.

The programme was launched by the Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen at a special ceremony held at the Iskandhar Building which houses the Maldives Police Service. Senior officials from state owned and private companies such as MTCC, HDC, Ooredoo Maldives, Island Insurance and Sheesha were in attendance at the ceremony.

Under the ‘Rakka’ Programme, police will be conducting various awareness drives for school children and the public on road safety and public safety. The initiative is conducted by the police every year.
The police have designated a special social media hashtag ‘#Ragalhugoi’ for this programme.

The road safety programme will be conducted nationwide, with activities planned to be conducted throughout the calendar year. The police have planned a road show, traffic monitor programme and a programme titled ‘FahiRaasthaa’ under this initiative for the year.

Furthermore, the programme has included special awareness drives targeted at key sectors in the Maldives. In this regard, programmes specifically tailored for government employees, private taxi drivers as well as company drivers are planned. The programme also includes an internal activity designed for police officers.

The first initiative under the ‘Rakka’ programme is planned to be conducted in Kulhudhufushi City.

Speaking to PSM News, The Superintendent of Police for road safety and awareness, Ahmed Faseeh stated that all activities planned for the initiative will be conducted under the ‘Ragalhukolla’ campaign.
