A record-breaking 2.2 million tourists have visited Maldives in 2025 so far, a marked 9.9 percent increase from last year.
The Ministry of Tourism and Environment data shows that 2,213,795 tourists have visited the country by 27th December, compared to the 2,014,577 that visited in 2024.
Within the first 27 days of December, 191,734 tourists vacationed in the country, an 8.4 percent growth from 2024. According to the ministry’s data, the highest number of travellers came from the following countries: China (328,503), Russia (272,852), United Kingdom (199,570), Germany (166,079) and Italy (147,529).
Maldives milestone of 2 million passengers was hit on 27th November 2025, a month earlier than in 2024. The figures reflect a daily average of 6,466 international arrivals into the country.
Today, Velana International Airport (VIA), has been projected to serve 22,000 passengers, with over 11,000 arrivals and subsequently a similar number of departures projected.
MACL highlighted that this was the busiest day since the inauguration of terminal 1 as an increasing number of airlines transition to the new passenger terminal.
