83 massage parlours closed in less than two weeks

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that 83 massage parlours have been closed since December 9, 2025 as part of ongoing enforcement action against illegal massage parlour operations. The President made the remarks while addressing residents of Hulhumale’ Phase II during a community meeting.

President Muizzu described the issue of massage parlours as a major social concern affecting the entire Male’ area, noting that inspection and enforcement against such establishments have been given special priority during the government’s community consultation meetings.

The President reiterated that 83 massage parlours have been shut down since the beginning of the month, marking a significant increase in enforcement compared to previous years.

He said that past actions largely involved warnings or limited measures, adding that fewer than half of the identified establishments were previously closed, despite repeated inspections.

President Muizzu also stated that enforcement operations have led to the arrest of foreign nationals linked to these businesses, with deportation procedures currently underway.
