Women’s CAVA Cup 2025 kicks off in the Maldives

The Central Asia Volleyball Association (CAVA) Women’s Cup 2025 has officially kicked off in the Maldives with a grand ceremony.

This year’s tournament features the national teams of the Maldives, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Kyrgyzstan.

The opening ceremony was graced by Sports Commissioner Mohamed Tholal and attended by CAVA President and President of Maldives Volleyball Association Mohamed Latheef, as well as heads of volleyball associations of CAVA member nations.

As part of the ceremony, the Sports Commissioner officially inaugurated the tournament trophy, after which the first match of the tournament was played between Maldives and Bangladesh.

Speaking at the event, the Commissioner noted that the government and Minister of Sports, Fitness and Recreation Abdulla Rafiu placed special importance on hosting international tournaments such as the Women’s CAVA Cup in the Maldives. He noted that the tournament reflects the government’s priority on women’s empowerment and youth development, and expressed hope that it would strengthen regional cooperation among participating countries.
