The Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) organised a children’s evening on Wednesday to mark Human Rights Day.
The event was held in Guraidhoo, Kaafu Atoll, with a large turnout. The event featured various stalls, entertainment activities and performances, and appearances by popular cartoon character mascots.
During the event, important information on human rights was shared with children, including what human rights are, ways in which human rights are denied or abused, and how human rights can be protected.
As part of the Human Rights Day activities, HRCM also visited the Special Needs Centre in Guraidhoo and held a gift-giving and entertainment programme for the centre’s residents.
Human Rights Day is observed every 10 December. This year marks the 77th anniversary of its celebration following a UN General Assembly resolution in 1948.
