President Affirms Dignity and Empowerment Key to True Inclusion for Persons with Disabilities

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has declared that genuine inclusion for persons with disabilities hinges on equitable access and robust economic empowerment, reaffirming his administration's steadfast commitment to upholding their dignity and rights.

In his message commemorating the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, observed annually on 3 December, the President underscored that these principles are deeply rooted in the Islamic faith, which mandates treating all individuals with dignity and equality.

He highlighted this year's theme, "Fostering disability-inclusive societies for advancing social progress," as a call to integrate persons with disabilities fully across all societal strata to build responsive communities.

President Muizzu outlined that the government's strategic policies are centered on early identification and empowerment. Demonstrating tangible progress, he noted the creation of over 300 employment opportunities for persons with disabilities this year alone, signaling a deliberate shift towards fostering economic independence.

While acknowledging persistent challenges, particularly in physical accessibility and access to information, the President assured that the government is actively working to dismantle these barriers, aiming to construct a more resilient society. He also extended heartfelt gratitude to the families, non-governmental organisations, and volunteers whose tireless efforts enrich the lives of persons with disabilities.

Further elaborating on initiatives, President Muizzu utilized his official X account to announce the launch of a specialized teacher-training programme for students with special learning needs and the government's comprehensive action plan dedicated to protecting disability rights, underscoring a commitment to realising every individual's full potential.

Echoing this sentiment, First Lady Sajidha Mohamed also posted on her official X account, celebrating the achievements and potential of persons with disabilities, advocating for enhanced support, equal opportunities, and the systematic removal of daily life barriers.
