The First Lady Sajidha Mohamed has underscored the critical importance of societal respect and empathy for the struggles and hardships faced by others, particularly those with disabilities.
Her remarks came during the official launch of MPL's inclusive employment programme, an initiative designed to create vital employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities.
Addressing the gathering, the First Lady highlighted the inherent diversity within humanity, noting that while abilities vary, perceived disabilities do not diminish an individual's capacity to make significant contributions to their communities and the world. She emphasised that many individuals with disabilities are already demonstrating remarkable achievements and providing invaluable benefits to society.
"It is the nature of the world to have differences with equality, and human beings have different abilities to varying degrees," she explained, urging a fundamental shift in societal attitudes towards individuals with disabilities.
"No one is perfect, so everyone should respect the pain and suffering of others."
The drive to foster noble human qualities throughout society, she said, is a true testament to a civilised nation.
The launch of the MPL’s inclusive employment programme was lauded by the First Lady as a noble endeavour that prioritises human dignity by offering public employment. This initiative, she believes, serves as powerful proof of the equality of all Maldivians and offers solace to the emotional pain experienced by many across the nation.
Additionally, the First Lady expressed confidence that this programme, aligned with the vision of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, will empower numerous Maldivians, enabling them to meet their essential needs through their own efforts and with dignity.
