Maldives, Morocco Advance Plans for Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group

Senior parliamentary leaders from the Maldives and Morocco convened this week on the sidelines of the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers Conference held in Islamabad, Pakistan, to advance bilateral legislative cooperation, including the proposed establishment of a formal parliamentary friendship group.

The meeting, held as part of a courtesy call by Abdul Raheem Abdulla, Speaker of the Parliament of the Maldives, to Mohamed Ould Errachid, President of the House of Councillors of Morocco, underscored the enduring ties between the two nations and their shared commitment to strengthening institutional dialogue.

A focal point of the exchange was the creation of a Maldives-Morocco Parliamentary Friendship Group, which Speaker Abdul Raheem confirmed would soon be initiated by the Maldivian Parliament. Designed to formalise inter-parliamentary collaboration, the group is expected to serve as a platform for sustained engagement between the two legislative bodies.

The conversation also turned to capacity-building efforts, with both parties exploring potential training programmes for staff of the Maldivian Parliament Secretariat, a move aimed at enhancing administrative competencies and institutional resilience.
