The government of Maldives has issued a strong condemnation of the bombing that occurred outside a judicial complex in Islamabad, which left at least 12 people dead and injured 27 others.
The attack, confirmed by Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, targeted an area near the capital’s court facilities. All injured individuals are currently receiving medical treatment, according to the minister.
In response, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Malé released a statement expressing deep sorrow over the loss of innocent lives. The government extended its condolences to the families of the victims and conveyed solidarity with the government and the “brotherly” people of Pakistan, and affirming support during “this difficult time.”
“The Government of Maldives reiterates its firm and unwavering position against all forms of violent extremism, and criminal acts, regardless of their motivations or justifications.,” the statement read. The message concluded with a wish for the swift recovery of those wounded in the attack.
