President Ratifies Eighth Amendment to Judges Act to Strengthen Judicial Integrity and Independence

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has ratified the eighth amendment to the Maldives Judges Act.

The amendment bill was passed by the 20th Parliament at its 17th sitting of the third session of 2025, held on 10 November 2025.

The Bill ensures that judges uphold the independence and integrity of the judiciary and maintain public confidence in the judicial system. It establishes code of conduct for judges, further clarifies the rules governing their performance, and outlines procedures for judicial appointments. The Bill also provides for the transfer and temporary assignment of judges to other courts, reviews existing regulations on judicial duties and financial disclosures, and introduces necessary amendments to strengthen the administration of justice and law enforcement.

Upon ratification by the President, the amendment bill has now come into effect.
