President Muizzu Hails India’s Support in Airport Project, Eyes Continued Cooperation

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on Monday expressed his appreciation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the government of India for their longstanding and generous support, describing it as instrumental to the Maldives’ socio-economic development.

The remarks were delivered during a courtesy call by Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, India’s Minister of Civil Aviation and Special Envoy of Prime Minister Modi. The meeting was held at the President’s Office in Malé.

Welcoming Minister Naidu, President Muizzu underscored India’s role as a steadfast partner in the Maldives’ development agenda. He conveyed confidence in the continued cooperation between the two countries, underscoring the importance of completing and operationalising ongoing infrastructure projects without delay.

A statement issued by the President’s Office noted that President Muizzu extended particular gratitude for India’s assistance in facilitating the timely opening of Hanimaadhoo International Airport. The airport’s inauguration, he said, marked a significant step forward in enhancing regional progress and global connectivity.

In response, Minister Naidu congratulated the government of Maldives on the successful completion of the airport project. He stated that Prime Minister Modi had personally overseen its delivery and reaffirmed India’s commitment to supporting the Maldives’ development efforts. According to the statement, the minister assured that all initiated projects would be completed on schedule.

The meeting concluded with both parties reaffirming their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation and advancing initiatives that yield mutually beneficial outcomes for both nations.
