With New US Dollar Counter and ATM at Hanimaadhoo Airport, BML Reaffirms Nationwide Access Commitment

The Bank of Maldives has introduced US dollar withdrawal and deposit services at Hanimaadhoo International Airport, expanding access to foreign currency at a key northern transport hub. The facilities, comprising a dedicated dollar counter and an automated teller machine, were officially launched on 9 November.

The rollout coincided with the inauguration of the redeveloped airport, an event officiated by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, who also formally initiated the bank’s new services.

The expansion is part of the bank’s broader strategy to strengthen its nationwide presence and improve service accessibility across the country. Mohamed Shareef, the bank’s chief executive and managing director, said the bank’s highest priority is to establish facilities that allow customers to access its services from anywhere in the Maldives.

Shareef expressed satisfaction with the new arrangement. “We are proud to extend our dollar collection services to Hanimaadhoo International Airport,” he said.

He noted that the simultaneous deployment of both the counter and the ATM reflected the bank’s commitment to service equity across the country. “Establishing the USD counter as well as the new USD ATM at Hanimaadhoo International Airport reaffirms our commitment to providing customers with easy access to our services to support communities across the country,” he said.

The Bank of Maldives operates the country’s most extensive banking network, with a presence in all 20 atolls. Its infrastructure includes 42 branches, 202 self-service banking centres, 262 ATMs, and a suite of modern online banking services.
