The Institute for Correctional Studies has been officially registered as a training centre under the National Occupational Competency Standard of the Maldives National Skills Development Authority (MNSDA).
The institute registration certificate was presented during a ceremony held on Sunday by Dr Zahra Mohamed, Chief Executive Officer of MNSDA. Superintendent Ibrahim Nashid received the certificate on behalf of the Institute for Correctional Studies.
During the event, discussions on conducting vocational training programmes for long-term prisoners, trainings for Maldives Correctional Service staff and specialised vocational programmes for women were held.
According to the Ministry of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development, the aim of these programmes is to ensure that prisoners who complete vocational skill building programmes receive national certification and are able to contribute positively to the society upon their release.
The Maldives Correctional Service conducts various skills development programmes for prisoners in collaboration with several government ministries.
