President Muizzu Calls for Safeguarding Customs and Heritage in Tourism Development

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has called for the preservation of the Maldives’ unique customs and traditions in the promotion and development of tourism. He made the appeal in a post shared on social media on the occasion of National Tourism Day.

In his post, the President extended Tourism Day greetings to past and present workers in the industry, expressing his sincere gratitude for their invaluable contribution.

The President urged all stakeholders in the industry to continue to strengthen tourism in the Maldives while safeguarding the natural beauty, harmony, and cultural heritage of the country.

National Tourism Day has been celebrated annually on 3 October since 2021, coinciding with the opening date of the country’s first resort. While the first tourists visited the Maldives in 1972, the Maldives has made great progress in the field over the years. Today, the Maldives is one of the world’s leading destinations.

The Maldives has maintained its position as the world's most popular tourist destination for five consecutive years since 2020.
