President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has officially designated Ranfaru Lagoon, located in Alifu Alifu Atoll, as part of Maalhos of the same atoll, in fulfillment of a commitment made to the local community.
This decision was formalised through a Presidential Decree issued under the authority granted by the Decentralisation Act.
Following this decision, Ranfaru Lagoon has been officially added to the list of inhabited islands in the Maldives, now forming part of Maalhos. Additionally, the appendix of a Presidential Decree on the establishment of inhabited islands in the Maldives has been updated accordingly.
This administrative change fulfils a promise made by President Dr Muizzu during his visit to several islands in Alifu Alifu and Kaafu Atoll in December 2024. The pledge was made in a meeting with the Alifu Alifu Maalhos Island Council and the Women’s Development Committee.
