The Sri Lankan government will begin issuing one-year medical visas to Maldivians residing in Sri Lanka, and spouse visas to Maldivians married to Sri Lankan citizens, from 1 August 2025.
The Maldives’ Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the move and noted that Sri Lanka is a country where a significant number of Maldivians reside and travel for health care. The decision by the Sri Lankan government is expected to ease visa challenges faced by Maldivians in Sri Lanka, the Ministry said.
Visa applicants are advised to ensure that all required documentation, especially those related to security clearance, is accurately completed when submitting their visa applications. The Government of Sri Lanka has cautioned that if any issues are identified during the security clearance process, it may result in negative consequences such as revocation of the visa.
The Foreign Ministry has advised all Maldivians residing in Sri Lanka to pay close attention to these matters.
