Media Has Vital Role in Climate Fight, Says Broadcom President

President of the Maldives Broadcasting Commission, Safa Shafeeq, has highlighted the crucial role of the media in the fight against climate change. She made the remarks while speaking at the 4th plenary session of the 20th Asia Media Summit, ongoing in Siem Reap, Cambodia.

Speaking on the theme, "Media and Climate Action, the Road to Sustainability", Safa stressed that the media must be more aware of the adverse impact of climate change on island nations such as the Maldives. She noted that countries like the Maldives are already facing challenges such as sea swells, water pollution, beach erosion, and coral bleaching as a result of climate change. Therefore, journalists have a powerful role to play in raising public awareness on such issues, she said, stressing that delayed action will result in damage for future generations.

Safa also noted that the Maldivian government is taking various measures to mitigate the impact of climate change through various policies and initiatives.
