Maldives Must Continue Promoting Investment Opportunities, Says Economic Minister

The Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Mohamed Saeed has emphasised the importance of consistently promoting and marketing investment opportunities in the Maldives.

In a post on the social media platform X, the Minister highlighted the ongoing efforts to attract foreign investments to the Maldives during President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s ongoing visit to the United Kingdom.

In his tweet, Minister Saeed said President Muizzu attended the UK-Maldives Business Forum held in London, where he engaged with a large number of UK-based investors and business leaders.

The Minister said the President officially launched the Maldives’ national fisheries brand, From Maldives, aimed at promoting the country’s premium seafood products in international markets. He further said the forum was organised with the participation of key ministries and government agencies, serving as a strategic platform to showcase investment opportunities across priority sectors of the Maldivian economy.

“Initiatives such as this are critical in today’s globally competitive landscape,” he wrote.

According to Minister Saeed, the forum brought together over 200 UK-based entrepreneurs, who explored a wide range of business opportunities — from the well-established tourism sector to emerging areas such as renewable energy and environmental sustainability.

While tourism remains a cornerstone of the Maldivian economy, the Minister noted that the forum also highlighted growing interest in green investments, in line with the President’s policy to generate at least 33 percent of the country’s energy from renewable sources by 2028.

The Minister also mentioned that to strengthen bilateral economic cooperation, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the West London Chambers of Commerce and the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of the Maldives. This partnership aims to foster long-term engagement and open new pathways for investment collaboration between the two countries, he said.
