The new international passenger terminal at Velana International Airport (VIA) will offer a dedicated area for airport reps for easier service, the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has said.
Airport reps working at VIA to greet, assist, and guide arriving and departing tourists are bundled together in a single area just outside the busy main arrival gate at VIA.
Airport reps who usually work long hours, guiding tourists and handling baggage are currently forced to work in hot and humid conditions.
As a welcome relief, MACL said the new passenger terminal will have a special airconditioned area equipped with restroom facilities for airport reps in the arrival area.
The other major convenience will be easy access to seaplane check-in counters for airport reps from the arrival area of the new terminal, significantly reducing the time taken to manage arriving and departing tourists.
The inauguration of VIA's new passenger terminal is scheduled for 26 July to coincide with Independence Day. Designed to accommodate seven million passengers annually, the facility is expected to broaden airline partnerships and support expanded flight frequencies. Government officials project the upgraded terminal will reinforce the Maldives' tourism sector and elevate the country's standing as a regional hub for international travel.
