In line with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s presidential pledge to strengthen Islamic institutions, the newly developed Islamic Library at King Salman Mosque was officially inaugurated on Saturday.
The opening ceremony was officiated by the Minister of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage, Adam Naseer Ibrahim, with the presence of Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed and senior officials from the Ministry of Islamic Affairs.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Dr Shaheem highlighted that the initiative to establish libraries within mosques and to revitalise mosque spaces is a key component of President Dr Muizzu’s broader vision for the Islamic community in the Maldives.
During the event, Minister Dr Shaheem called upon Islamic scholars and Maldivian authors to contribute their valuable publications to the library. He noted that the realisation of this library was the result of the hard work and dedication of many individuals, to whom he extended heartfelt gratitude.
The Islamic Library, located on the third floor of the King Salman Mosque, has been developed to modern standards, offering a comfortable and resource-rich environment for readers and researchers. The library currently houses more than 15,000 books, making it a significant milestone in the country’s efforts to promote Islamic learning and knowledge dissemination.
Establishing Islamic libraries across the country’s mosques and Islamic centres remains a key pledge of President Dr Muizzu’s administration.
