Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) in the Maldives should create jobs and business opportunities for the youth, Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure Dr Abdulla Muththalib has said.
Speaking during the ceremony held on Tuesday to celebrate the official completion of the Maafaru International Airport, Minister Muththalib said the policy of the government of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu is to improve the quality of life of the people through development.
Foreign direct investments, according to the Minister, must not only be a way to raise tax money for the state, but also create job opportunities for the youth. Highlighting the significance of the Maafaru airport project, he said the airport would open up more economic and development opportunities for the people of the entire Noonu Atoll.
"Today is a day that symbolises the importance of Noonu Atoll in the development of Maldives. Today is a day that renews hope for a bright future for the people of Noonu Atoll. The Atoll is one of the most beautiful Atolls in the entire country. The Atoll already has many of the world's top resorts,” he said.
The Minister also insisted that the people should not be bystanders in such development projects and instead must be partners to the development of the country.
He also urged the people of Noonu Atoll to work with resort developers and investors to create more economic opportunities and increase employment and business opportunities.
Highlighting the millions of dollars worth of investments already in Noonu Atoll, Minister Muththalib hailed the potential the Atoll holds for more development and growth in the future.
He also insisted that the aim must be to ensure that every citizen personally benefits from the development of the Atoll.
