The President's Office has dismissed Dawood Ahmed, Undersecretary for Digital Strategy, following a determination that he provided false testimony during an official investigation into an incident in the capital earlier this year.
The decision was announced by Chief Spokesperson Heena Waleed, who said the dismissal was based on the findings of a Special Presidential Commission. That commission had been appointed to examine events on 18 April 2025, when a young woman was found fallen on the roof of a residential building in Malé.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu established the commission on 27 April with a mandate to carry out an independent, impartial and credible inquiry. Its responsibilities included verifying facts, assessing the conduct of relevant institutions, issuing recommendations and advising the president on the path forward.
Before his dismissal was made official, Ahmed had already been suspended without pay effective 24 April. On that same day, he tendered his resignation as chair and member of the Presidential Youth Advisory Board, which the president subsequently accepted.
The President's Office noted that the commission completed its work in just 52 days, a record turnaround for such a body, and submitted its final report on Tuesday. The full report was published on the President's Office website at the direction of President Muizzu.
