President Congratulates Australian Prime Minister on Re-Election

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has congratulated Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on his re-election to a second consecutive term, a victory that reinforces his leadership and political vision. Albanese, leader of the Labour Party, is the first individual in two decades to secure back-to-back terms as Australia's head of government, where each tenure lasts three years.

Albanese's electoral success was recognised by President Muizzu in a statement shared on social media. He described the outcome as a testament to Albanese's leadership and the trust placed in him by the Australian electorate. "The strong mandate reflects the trust Australians place in your leadership," he said.

President Muizzu also reflected on the broader significance of the election, expressing optimism about Maldives-Australia relations. He underscored his commitment to fostering stronger bilateral cooperation. "I look forward to working together with you to strengthen the Maldives-Australia partnership," he added.

With 68 percent of ballots counted, preliminary results indicate a decisive lead for Albanese's Labour Party. The Australian Electoral Commission projects that Labour is poised to secure 81 out of 150 seats in the legislative assembly—an increase from its previous term's seat count, further reinforcing its parliamentary standing.

Addressing his supporters, Albanese affirmed that Labour had secured enough seats to govern independently, eliminating the need for a coalition. He highlighted his commitment to national sovereignty, stating that his administration would determine Australia's trajectory without external influence. The government, he said, would remain autonomous, free from reliance on foreign entities.
