Minister visits four islands to monitor local council status

Minister of Cities, Local Government, and Public Works Adam Shareef Umar has visited four islands aimed at closely evaluating the status of local councils.

The islands included in the minister's itinerary were Dhiffushi, Thulusdhoo, and Huraa, all situated within the Kaafu Atoll. Accompanying Minister Adam Shareef were state ministers, deputy ministers, and the newly elected Parliamentarian Ibrahim Naseem.

Each visit was marked by crucial meetings with island councils, Women's Development Committees (WDCs), and the Kaafu Atoll Council. These sessions served as platforms for candid discussions, where the councils and WDC members shared insights into the prevailing challenges and public concerns. Moreover, they provided updates on ongoing developmental projects.

In his addresses to the councils, Minister Adam assured proactive measures to address the islands' challenges sustainably, underlining the importance of collaborative efforts with local administrations.

Speaking to PSM News, Minister Adam reiterated President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's steadfast commitment to advancing significant developmental initiatives for the benefit of island residents. He underscored the pivotal role played by councils in island development, emphasising the need to empower them while ensuring revenue generation for sustainable growth.

Moreover, Minister Adam acknowledged and empathised with the concerns voiced by various stakeholders, affirming a comprehensive approach towards addressing them.
