Online forum to mark World Intellectual Property Day concludes

World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO), in collaboration with the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade and the Business Center Corporation (BCC) has convened a special online forum. The forum served as a platform for discussions on the significance of intellectual property protection and the challenges faced in this domain.

Attended by esteemed figures including Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade Dr. Aishath Shahuda Abdulla and Director Human Resources of BCC, Mariyam Shairau, the forum featured keynote speeches emphasising the importance of safeguarding intellectual property rights and addressing associated hurdles.

Drawing participation from local and international stakeholders, the forum facilitated fruitful exchanges of views and discussions on strategies to protect intellectual property in various artistic industries. With 121 registered participants engaging in the three-hour webinar, the event fostered a dynamic dialogue on the complexities and solutions surrounding intellectual property rights.

This year's theme for World Intellectual Property Day, "Intellectual Property and the SDGs: Building Our Common Future with Innovation and Creativity," underscore the pivotal role of innovation and creativity in driving sustainable development goals. The forum's deliberations echoed this theme, highlighting the integral link between intellectual property, innovation, and progress towards a shared future.
