President expresses hope for Yameen's justice and release

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has expressed optimism regarding the potential justice and release of Former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom. He made the remarks during his address at a political gathering organised by the Progressive Congress Coalition.

Speaking at the gathering, President Dr. Muizzu highlighted the historical political turbulence faced by former Maldivian presidents under previous administrations. He expressed satisfaction over the decision to schedule the appeal hearing for former President Yameen, emphasising the anticipation of seeing all former presidents enjoy freedom upon Yameen's potential release.

Additionally, President Dr. Muizzu has consistently advocated for a fair and expeditious resolution of Yameen's case in various forums, including meetings and campaign rallies. Following his electoral victory, Yameen was relocated to his residence upon the President's request.

Moreover, President Dr. Muizzu has lodged an appeal against Yameen's imprisonment sentence in the High Court of the Maldives. The verdict hearing is set for April 18 following the conclusion of the hearings.
