License fees to councils, Safety Certificate renewals now 5 years

Government has resolved that the administrative fees charged from the license issuance service will directly be paid to the relevant councils, starting from May 1. Simultaneously, the validity of safety certificate for sea vessels have been extended to five years, following amendments made. These alterations were announced by the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, Mohamed Ameen.

Speaking at a press conference, Minister Ameen underscored that there have been persistent concerns by the councils, reiterating that the council's benefits do not align with the services they provide. The minister further conveyed that efforts are underway to strengthen the councils and increase income generating opportunities, following the President's key commitment addressing the issue.

Minister Ameen reaffirmed that although the deadline for issuing the safety certificates have been extended, regular safety measures for vehicles will still be enforced.
