PG Office appeals release of child sexual abuse convicts

The Prosecutor General's Office (PG Office) has appealed with the High Court the release of a man accused of sexually abusing a child.

The Magistrate Court had decided to release the 69-year-old male suspect involved in the case. However, following the submission of the appeal to the High Court on March 24, the individual was taken back into custody. The PG Office asserted that the appeal was filed due to concerns that the accused was released contrary to established laws and regulations.

Despite facing significant public criticism, the government clarified that decisions regarding the release of accused individuals rest with the courts, not with the government.
