Students need to contribute to environmental protection: Gov’t

Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Technology Aminath Shauna has emphasized the vital role of students in safeguarding the environment and preserving the rich marine life for future generations. She made the remark at the 2021-2022 awards ceremony of the Baa Atoll Education Centre.

During her speech, Minister Shauna underscored the significance of students joining forces to protect the environment. She emphasized that an environmentally conscious community can serve as a shining example for others and stressed the responsibility of students in addressing the environmental challenges faced by the Maldives.

Minister Shauna further highlighted the importance of biosphere reserves in conserving the local environment while also contributing to development initiatives. She emphasized the crucial link between environmental preservation and the Maldives' tourism and fisheries sectors.

At the awards ceremony, Minister Shauna had the honor of presenting awards to the outstanding achievers from the Baa Atoll Education Centre. Notably, approximately 80% of students successfully passed their O'level examinations last year, with an impressive nine students securing positions in the national top 10 list. Furthermore, 93% of students passed three subjects in the A'level examinations, with 15 students ranking among the top 10.
